2019 Tournament Descriptions

APRIL

April 13th - ABCD Red Tee  * Ryder Cup Points Event (RC)

You will enjoy easing into the new golf season with everyone playing from the Red Tees in the first event of the year.   This is a team one best ball gross and net event.  Each team will consist of one A, B, C and D player (designated by handicap). ABCD teams are assigned via blind draw.

 

  • Sign up in advance in the Men’s Locker Room

  • Tournament *Fee: $ 5.00 per person.

  • Prizes are awarded for both Gross and Net Teams.

 

April 28th - Opener Scramble * Ryder Cup Points Event (RC) (B) (Shotgun)

The day will start with a breakfast buffet at The Rockledge Grille.  Enjoy the Spring Meeting of the Men's Club, prizes will be raffled, and you will hear news about Rockledge and the Men's Club from our PGA Pro, Rich Crowe, and the Men’s Club President, Kevin Pasternack.  There is a shotgun start.

 

There will be four and five man teams, assigned via blind draw in the ABCD format.  The scramble format requires each player to hit a drive. The team then picks the best drive and all players then play from that spot, continuing to play the team's best shot in this format on every hole. Each player is usually required to hit a minimum number of drives. Prizes are awarded for both Gross & Net Teams for both 4 & 5 player teams. After the event, enjoy hors d’oeuvres sponsored by the Men’s Club at The Rockledge Grille.

May

May 4th - ABCD – HotBall * Ryder Cup Points Event (RC)

This is actually two tournaments in one. The first is a regular team ABCD one best ball event. The second event is the “hotball” tournament; on each hole one player on a team is given the “hotball” and the score that player records is the hotball score for that hole.  Each team member must play the hotball a minimum number of times.  If the hotball is lost, then your team is not eligible to post a score in the hotball tournament, but is still eligible for the ABCD best ball.    Each team will consist of one A, B, C and D player.

  • Prizes are awarded for both Gross and Net Teams – Paid for both ABCD and Hotball scores

May 11th - Spring Ramble 27 Hole (B)

Playing with the partner of your choice, you will be placed into a flight based on your combined team handicap.  Each flight will have four teams and you will play three 9 hole match play matches. Competition is handicapped in each match.

  • Tournament *Fee: $ 20.00 per person, which includes a bag lunch.

  • Prizes are awarded to the 1st & 2nd place team in each flight.

May 25-27th - Rockledge Memorial Member/Member * Tournament of Champions Qualifier (TC)

This is a 36 hole two man best ball event.  Your team must play two 18 hole rounds on two of the three days that this tournament is held over Memorial Day Weekend.  Teams must declare with the Pro Shop that they are playing their Memorial round before teeing off.  The gross and net with the winner’s names are permanently placed on plaques in the Rockledge Club House. Low gross and low net winners qualify for the Tournament of Champions on September 22nd

JUNE

 June 1-2nd - Individual Match Play * Tournament of Champions Qualifier (TC) (B)

Based on your handicap, you will be put into a flight of six players and play five 9 hole match play matches over two days (27 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday). This event has proven to be one of the most popular of the year, and you will not want to miss it.

  • Prizes are awarded to the 1st & 2nd place in each flight.

 

June 9th – Mini Ramble (18 hole event)

Playing with the partner of your choice, you will be placed into a flight based on your combined team handicap.  Each flight will have four teams and you will play three 6-hole match play matches. Competition is handicapped in each match.

  • Prizes are awarded to the 1st & 2nd place team in each flight.

June 22nd – ABCD Junior Fund Raiser * Ryder Cup Points Event (RC)

This is a “NEW FORMAT” event for the Mens Club. Aggregate quote for the assigned ABCD team with create the Net Event. One best ball Gross will also be played. Quotas are established for each player and team. Quotes are created off the 2 point per hole and modified Stableford Point System (0-DB+, 1-B, 2-P, 4-Br, 6-E, 8-DE+). Quota Example: 18 hdcp – 36 Pt Basis, Quota for the player is 36 minus 18 handicap for a Quota of 18. Add all 4 players quota to create team quota. For once in golf, highest point total wins. ABCD will be a blind draw and tee times assigned.

  • Tournament *Fee: $ 10.00 per person ($5.00 from each entry will go directly to Junior Golf)

  • Prizes are awarded for both Gross and Aggregate Quota Teams.

JULY

July 4th, July 6th & 7th - Sherman Memorial *Tournament of Champions Qualifier (TC) (T)

The second major event of the year, this is an individual 36 hole stroke play event. Players must declare with the Pro Shop that they are playing their Sherman Memorial round before teeing off. Play two 18 hole rounds on two of the three days of the Independence Day weekend. The gross and net with the winner’s names are permanently placed on plaques in the Rockledge Club House.

Low gross and low net winners qualify for the Tournament of Champions on September 22nd

July 4th, July 6th & 7th - Two of Three Day Member/Member

July 13-14th - SR, SR-SR, Legends & Masters Club Championship *Tournament of Champions Qualifier (TC) (T) (B)

36 holes of stroke play make up this Club Championship major event.  Prizes are awarded for gross and net.  Players drive from their own handicap level tees (or assigned level tees?). Senior age 50-59, Senior – Senior age 60-69. Legend age 70-79, Masters 80+. The flight winner’s names are permanently placed on plaques in the Rockledge Club House.

  • Winners of each flight qualify for the Tournament of Champions on September 22nd

  • Sign up in advance in the Men’s Locker Room.

  • Tournament Fee: None

  • Prizes are awarded in each flight.

July 20th - President’s Trophy *Tournament of Champions Qualifier (TC)

Based on your handicap, you will be put into a four man flight and will play three 6-hole matches from assigned tees. The winner of each flight will advance to an 18-hole stroke play event on Saturday July 27th.    The winner of the President’s Trophy on Saturday the 27th will be determined by the lowest net score. Tee times will be assigned.

  • Winners of each flight qualify for the Tournament of Champions on September 22nd.

  • Tournament *Fee: $ 15.00 per person

  • Prizes are awarded to the 1st & 2nd place in each flight.

July 27th - President’s Trophy Finals *Tournament of Champions Qualifier (TC) (T)

The winner of each flight, from July 21st advances to this 18 hole stroke play event.  The winner of the President’s Trophy will be determined by the lowest net score. Tee times will be assigned. The low net winners name is permanently placed on plaques in the Rockledge Club House.

  • Prizes are awarded for both Gross and Net

 

August

August 4th- ABCD 4 ball best two balls *Ryder Cup Points Event (RC)

Each team is made up off four player in a blind draw be create the ABCD groups.   Each player plays their own ball, with the two best balls gross and net counting for the team score.

August 11th - Summer Ramble 27 Holes (B)

Playing with the partner of your choice, you will be placed into a flight based on your combined team handicap.  Each flight will have four teams and you will play three 9-hole match play matches. Competition is handicapped in each match. Tee times will be assigned.

  • Prizes are awarded to the 1st & 2nd place team in each flight.

 

August 17th - ABCD Front Nine Best Ball, Back Nine Alternate Shot *Ryder Cup Points Event (RC)

Each team will be made up of one A, B, C and D player from a blind draw. On the front side, the best ball on each hole is the score each team will post.  On the back nine the A and D player and C and B players will play a modified alternate shot format.  In the alternate shot format each player will hit a tee shot, the playing partners will then each hit the other partners second shot. They will then select the shot you want to play. You will then play alternate shots until the ball is holed out.

 

For the front side the lowest gross and net score for the team will be the score posted on each hole. For the backside the lowest gross score will be the score posted on each hole.

August 25th - Qualifying for Championship Flight in Men's Club Championship (T)

The Championship Flight will play a match play format which includes the 2018 Club Champion and seven other players that qualify through this 18 hole medal play qualifier.  This is the ONLY way to qualify to play in the Championship Flight.  If you play in the qualifier and do not qualify for the Championship Flight, you may play in the Club Championship in the A, B, C, or D Flights, as determined by your handicap.

September

August 31st, September 1-2nd - Pro’s Trophy *Tournament of Champions Qualifier (TC) (T)

This is an individual 36 hole stroke play event.  You must play two of the three days over the Labor Day weekend.  Players must declare with the Pro Shop before teeing off that they are playing a round in the Pro’s Trophy. The winner’s names are permanently placed on plaques in the Rockledge Club House.

August 31st, September 1-2nd - 2 of 3 Day Member/Member

Pick your own partner for this best ball event Play two 18 hole rounds on two of the three days of the Labor Day weekend.  Players must declare with the Pro Shop before teeing off that they are playing a round in this event.

September 7th-8th - Club Championship *Tournament of Champions Qualifier (TC) (T) (B)

Last year’s Club Champion and the seven qualifiers will play a single elimination match play event in the Championship Flight.   The quarter and semifinals will be played on Saturday and the 18 hole final will be played on Sunday.   The A, B, C and D Flights, which are determined by handicap, will play a separate 36 hole stroke play event with 18 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday.  Winners in the A, B and C flights will be determined by the low gross score.  The winner of the D flight will determined by the low net score.

Friday September 13th - Member Guest (1PM Shotgun)

Invite a guest and come join us at one of the best events of the year. Lunch, Raffle, Competitive Golf, Cocktails & Hors D’vors and so much more fun. This event sells out every year, so if you are interested, please look for the sign up that comes out in June.

September 15th - ABCD Best Ball *Ryder Cup Points Event (RC)

This is a regular team ACBD one best ball event. Each team will consist of one A, B, C and D player from a blind draw.

September 21st - Tournament of Champions

An 18-hole modified Stableford scoring tournament. Quotas are established for each player. Quotes are created off the 2 point per hole and modified Stableford Point System (0-DB+, 1-B, 2-P, 4-Br, 6-E, 8-DE+) Quota Example: 18 hdcp – 36 Pt Basis, Quota for the player is 36 minus 18 handicap for a Quota of 18. Tee times will be assigned. The following players will qualify for this event:

 

Match play Individual Championship, winners of each flight including ties

Winners of the Rockledge Memorial (gross and net)

Winners of the Sherman Memorial (gross and net)

Sr. Club Championship, winners of each flight

Presidents Trophy, winners of each flight from day one including ties

Winners of the Pro’s Trophy (gross and net)

Club Championship, winners of each flight

  • Qualifiers will be notified by the Pro Shop

  • Tournament Fee: $ 5.00 per person

September 28th - Fall Open Ramble (B)

Playing with the partner of your choice (your partner does not have to be a Rockledge Men’s Club member, but he must have a USGA handicap with a max differential for the partners of no more than 10 strokes.  If your partner does not have a USGA handicap he will play with a scratch handicap), you will be placed into a flight based on your combined team handicap.  Each flight will have four teams and you will play three 9-hole match play matches. Competition is handicapped in each match.

  • Prizes are awarded to the 1st & 2nd place team in each flight.

OCTOBER

October 6th - Ryder Cup

The field for this 18 hole event includes the top 36 players that have qualified by earning enough Ryder Cup points throughout the 2019 golf season.  Ryder Cup points are earned by participating in qualifying events that are listed on the schedule.   There will be two Ryder Cup team (Nicklaus & Palmer), a captain will be named for each team. Format is to have a Team Match on the front nine (2 point matches) and Individual Matches on the back nine (1 point matches). Team with the most points wins. Teams are drawn using handicap in an ABBAABBAABBA pattern using handicap indexes.

 

Players qualify based on points earned during the 2018 season and will be notified by the Pro Shop

  • This is a winner takes all team event. The winning team gets prizes

October 15th - John Sivell Challenge

This tournament, which is the final Tuesday/Friday event of the season, is played in a scramble format.  Each player hits a drive, the best drive is selected. Each player then hits from that spot, you then select the best shot and once again play from that spot, repeat until the ball is holed on all 18.    This tournament is followed by a buffet lunch at The Rockledge Restaurant. Tues/Fri modified shotgun start.

  • Prizes are award Gross & Net Teams.

October 20th - Closer Shamble (Shotgun)

Join us for a breakfast buffet at The Rockledge Grille. Enjoy the Fall Meeting of the Men's Club, raffle, and you will hear the year end wrap up regarding Rockledge from our PGA Pro, Rich Crowe, as well as the Men’s Club President, Kevin Pasternack.  The Men's Club officers for the 2019-2020 season will also be elected. The breakfast will be followed by a shotgun start.

 

There will be four and five man teams.  The Closer is played in a shamble format, which requires each player to hit a drive, the team picks the best drive and all players then play from that spot, until each holes out his ball.  Each player is usually required to hit a minimum number of drives. The one lowest gross and net score for each hole is the team score for that hole. After the event, enjoy hors d’oeuvres sponsored by the Men’s Club at The Rockledge Grille.

November 3rd – Greens Keeper Revenge and West Hartford Food Bank Fundraiser

This is an individual 18 hole Gross and Net event.   The grounds crew will take out their revenge by setting several pin positions that will be your worst nightmare! Make sure you bring all of your skills with you for this tournament! In addition we will be once again be raising funds for the West Hartford Food Bank. Please bring a non-perishable food item or you can make an additional cash contribution as part of your entrance fee for this event  You can make your own foursome or come as a single and you will be put in a group to play with.   Prizes will be awarded for gross and net but the real winner in this event is the West Hartford Food Bank!  A modified shotgun start will follow coffee and donuts.
