2018 Tournament Descriptions

April 14th- ABCD Red Tee

You will enjoy easing into the new golf season playing from the Red Tees in the first event of the year.   This is a team best ball gross and net event.  Each team will consist of one A, B, C and D player.

Sign up in advance in the Men’s Locker Room; ABCD teams assigned via blind draw and posted with starting times on the Men's Club website during the week before the tournament.

Tournament *Fee: $ 5.00 per person.

April 22nd - Opener Scramble

Historically, the Opener is the event with the biggest field of the year.   The day will start with a breakfast buffet at The Rockledge Restaurant.  At the breakfast, which is the Spring Meeting of the Men's Club, door prizes will be raffled off and you will hear news about Rockledge and the Men's Club from our PGA Pro, Rich Crowe, and the Men’s Club President, Jon Weiner.  The breakfast will be followed by a shotgun start.

Depending on the number of players signed up for this event, there will be four or five man teams, assigned via blind draw in the ABCD format.  The scramble format requires each player to hit a drive.  The team then picks the best drive and all players then play from that spot, continuing to play the team's best shot in this format until the ball is holed out.  Each player is usually required to hit a minimum number of drives.

 

After the event, enjoy hors d’oeuvres sponsored by the Men’s Club at The Rockledge Restaurant.

May 5th - ABCD Junior Golf Fundraiser

This is a team best ball gross and net event.  Each team will consist of one A, B, C and D player.

$ 5.00 from each player’s entry fee will go towards a 50/50 prize for anyone hitting the 13th green in regulation. In addition a portion of each player’s entry fee in this event will go towards funding junior golf programs.

May 12th - Spring Ramble

Playing with the partner of your choice, you will be placed into a flight based on your combined team handicap.  Each flight will have four teams and you will play three 9 hole match play matches.

May 26-28th - Rockledge Memorial Member/Member

This is a 36 hole two man best ball event.  Your team must play two 18 hole rounds on two of the three days that this tournament is held over Memorial Day Weekend.  Teams must declare with the Pro Shop that they are playing their Memorial round before teeing off.  Prizes are awarded for gross and net with the winner’s names being permanently placed on plaques in the Rockledge Club House.

 

Low gross and low net winners qualify for the Tournament of Champions on September 22nd

June 2-3rd - Individual Match Play

Based on your handicap, you will be put into a flight of six players and play five 9 hole match play matches over two days (27 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday).   This event has proven to be one of the most popular of the year, and you will not want to miss it.

June 10th - ABCD with Hotball  (Yellow Tee)

This is actually two tournaments in one. The first is a regular team ACBD best ball event with prizes paid for gross and net.  The second is the “hotball” tournament; on each hole one player on a team is given the “hotball” and the score that player records is the hotball score for that hole.  Each team member must play the hotball a minimum number of times.  If the hotball is lost, then your team is not eligible to post a score in the hotball tournament, but is still eligible for the ABCD best ball.   Each team will consist of one A, B, C and D player.

June 23rd - Mini Ramble

Playing with the partner of your choice you will be placed into a flight based on your combined handicap.  Each flight will have four teams and you will play three 6 hole match play matches.

June 30th, July 1st and July 4th - Sherman Memorial

The second major event of the year, this is an individual 36 hole stroke play event. Players must declare with the Pro Shop that they are playing their Sherman Memorial round before teeing off. Prizes will be awarded for gross and net.  Play two 18 hole rounds on two of the three days of the Independence Day weekend.

 

Low gross and low net winners qualify for the Tournament of Champions on September 22nd

July 14-15th - SR, SR-SR, Legends & Masters Club Championship

36 holes of stroke play make up this Club Championship major event.    Prizes are awarded for gross and net.    Senior age 50-59, Senior – Senior age 60-69. Legend age 70-79, Masters 80+

 

Winners of each flight qualify for the Tournament of Champions on September 22nd

July 21st - President’s Trophy

Based on your handicap, you will be put into a four man flight and play three six hole match play matches.  The winner of each flight will advance to an 18 hole stroke play event on Saturday July 29th.    The winner of the President’s Trophy on Saturday the 29th will be determined by the lowest net score.

 

Winners of each flight qualify for the Tournament of Champions on September 22nd.

July 28th- President’s Trophy Finals

The winner of each flight, from July 21st advances to this 18 hole stroke play event.    The winner of the President’s Trophy will be determined by the lowest net score.

August 5th- ABCD 4 ball best two balls

Each team is made up of one A, B, C and D player.   Each player plays their own ball with the two best balls gross and net counting for the team score.

August 12th - Summer Ramble 27 Holes (B)

Playing with the partner of your choice, you will be placed into a flight based on your combined team handicap.  Each flight will have four teams and you will play three 9 hole match play matches.

August 18th - ABCD Front Nine Best Ball, Back Nine Alternate Shot

Each team will be made up of one A, B, C and D player.   On the front side, the best ball on each hole is the score each team will post.  On the back nine the A and D player and C and B players will play an alternate shot format.  In the alternate shot format each player will hit a tee shot, the playing partners will then each hit the other partners second shot.  They will then select the shot you want to play. You will then play alternate shots until the ball is holed out.

 

For the front side the lowest gross and net score for the team will be the score posted on each hole. For the backside the lowest gross score will be the score posted on each hole.

August 26th - Qualifying for Championship Flight in Men's Club Championship

The Championship Flight will play a match play format which will include the 2017 Club Champion and seven other players that qualify through this 18 hole medal play qualifier.  This is the ONLY way to qualify to play in the Championship Flight.  If you play in the qualifier and do not qualify for the Championship Flight, you may play in the Club Championship in the A, B, C, or D Flights, as determined by your handicap.

September 1-3rd - Pro’s Trophy

This is an individual 36 hole stroke play event.  You must play two of the three days over the Labor Day weekend.  Players must declare with the Pro Shop before teeing off that they are playing a round in the Pro’s Trophy.

September 1-3rd 2 of 3 Day Member/Member

September 8-9th - Club Championship

Last year’s Club Champion and the seven qualifiers will play a single elimination match play event in the Championship Flight.   The quarter and semifinals will be played on Saturday and the 18 hole final will be played on Sunday.   The A, B, C and D Flights, which are determined by handicap, will play a separate 36 hole stroke play event with 18 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday.   The winner in the A, B and C flights will be determined by the low gross score.  The winner of the D flight will determined by the low net score.

September 16th - ABCD Best Ball

September 22nd - Tournament of Champions

New for the 2018 golf season this will be an 18 hole stableford scoring tournament.  The following players will qualify for this event:

Winners of the Rockledge Memorial (gross and net)

Match play Individual Championship, winners of each flight including ties

Winners of the Sherman Memorial (gross and net)

Sr Club Championship, winners of each flight

Presidents Trophy, winners of each flight from day one including ties

Winners of the Pro’s Trophy (gross and net)

Club Championship, winners of each flight

Qualifiers will be notified by the Pro Shop

Tournament Fee: $ 5.00 per person  

September 30th - Fall Open Ramble

Playing with the partner of your choice (your partner does not have to be a Rockledge Men’s Club member, but he must have a USGA handicap with a max differential for the partners of no more than 10 strokes.  If your partner does not have a USGA handicap he will play with a scratch handicap), you will be placed into a flight based on your combined team handicap.  Each flight will have four teams and you will play three 9 hole match play matches.

October 6 & 7th - Inter-Club Match with Keney Park

October 14th - Ryder Cup

The field for this 18 hole event includes the top 36 players that have qualified by earning enough Ryder Cup points throughout the 2018 golf season.  Ryder Cup points are earned by participating in qualifying events that are listed on the schedule.   There will be two Ryder Cup teams this year, a captain will be named for each team.   The tournament will then be played between the two teams in a Ryder cup format.

Players qualify based on points earned during the 2018 season and will be notified by the Pro Shop

Tournament *Fee: $ 10.00 per person

October 16th - John Sivell Challenge

This tournament, which is the final Tuesday/Friday event of the season, is played in a scramble format.  Each player hits a drive and the best drive is selected, each player then hits from that spot, you then select the best shot and once again play from that spot, repeat until the ball is holed.    This tournament is followed by a buffet lunch at The Rockledge Restaurant.

October 21st - Closer Shamble

The day will start with a breakfast buffet at The Rockledge Restaurant. At the breakfast, which is the Fall Meeting of the Men's Club, many door prizes will be given away and you will hear updates about Rockledge from our PGA Pro, Rich Crowe, as well as the Men’s Club President Jon Weiner.  The Men's Club officers for the 2018-2019 season will also be elected at the breakfast meeting. The breakfast will be followed by a shotgun start.

Depending on the number of players signed up for this event, there will be four or five man teams.  The Closer is played in a shamble format, which requires each player to hit a drive; the team picks the best drive and all players then play from that spot, until each holes out his ball.  Each player is usually required to hit a minimum number of drives. The lowest gross and net score for each hole is the team score for that hole.

 

After the event, enjoy hors d’oeuvres sponsored by the Men’s Club at The Rockledge Restaurant.

November 4th – Greens Keeper Revenge and West Hartford Food Bank Fundraiser

This is an individual 18 hole Gross and Net event.   The grounds crew will take out their revenge by setting pin positions that will be your worst nightmare!   Make sure you bring all of your skills with you for this tournament! In addition we will be once again be raising funds for the West Hartford Food Bank.   Please bring a non-perishable food item or you can make an additional cash contribution as part of your entrance fee for this event  You can make your own foursome or come as a single and you will be put in a group to play with.   Prizes will be awarded for gross and net but the real winner in this event is the West Hartford Food Bank!  A modified shotgun start will follow coffee and donuts.
